VANDA MISS JOAQUIM var. agnes IS SUCH A PRETTY ORCHID FLOWER!
The Vanda Miss Joaquim var. Agnes, a climbing orchid, was picked as the Singapore National Flower on 15 April 1981. This inaugurated the first National Flower Week in Singapore. The plant is named after Agnes Joaquim who had grown it in her garden at 2 Narcis Street, Tanjong Pagar in 1893 and had it registered in the same year. It is considered the first hybrid of the Vanda to be registered. There is controversy whether the flower was actually bred rather than discovered by Joaquim.
As Singapore's National Flower, the Vanda Miss Joaquim's uses are more symbolic than utilitarian. The Vanda Miss Joaquim was picked from among 40 flowers, out of which 30 were orchids, as Singapore's National Flower. This makes Singapore the only nation to have a hybrid as her national flower. Among the several varieties of Vanda Miss Joaquim, the variety "Agnes" was chosen particularly for its vibrant colours, hardiness and resilience: qualities which reflect the Singapore spirit. Its ability to bloom throughout the year also won the judges over.
Somehow the Vanda Miss Joaquim doesn't look nice as the design of stamps.

An update. You guys must be thinking: finally!
well i've been quite busy for the past 2 weeks that's why. ><
hmm let me summarize what has happened so far!
Received presents! 2 beautiful t-shirts, a 'spot the cow' drawing, a red moomoo mug, a huge teddy bear which i named Blackie, a big photo frame and a pink MOOMOO1 from a couple of my lovely 4I classmates!:D A mug of which memos could be written on using chalk (damn cool leh!), a MOOMOO2, a chocolate cake(with a mouse on top) and lotsa bird-shaped balloons from Flutes!:D A yummy Mango cake from dajie! Chocolate and Strawberry cake from anan and bobo!^^ Tigger soft toy from ben! + lots of birthday messages. Thanks everyone for remembering my birthday C:

basically i spent the whole of last week mugging for Chem test + science quiz stuff + maths trig2&3 test. but it wasn't the end cos Saturday was Rhythm XXII~ so on friday i switched my brain from academic mode to music mode.
Rhythm XXII was okay on my opinion. I personally felt that i didn't perform my best :( well nvm abt me but i think the rest of the band did quite well. I started the day in school at around late morning, exchanging gifts and notes with everyone as what we usually do. the gifts were cool! most were handmade with much sincerity (: This year received loads of cards/ messages too cos sec 4 already.. hahha. Some of them were really touching yeh. ( no priscilla, i wasn't going to cry in front of everyone! ><)
so after that it was time to move off to VCH. Loads of stuff to Bring along! Sadly, my speed of moving stuff decreased significantly cos i wore my courtshoes to school. Running around in courtshoes was so unglamorous but too bad la no choice-.- But no, i didn't regret it because if i had worn sch shoes, it would mean an extra shoebag to carry...
As soon as we reached VCH, rehearsals started! First was JH Band followed by SH+Alumni band (which i also played in) The rehearsals were fine i guess (: SH+ Alumni Band is pro! After that it was Kang Chiao's rehearsal time ( omg they had a singer la!) which was my rest time. Had dinner first with most of Flute Section w/o yvonne & jy. Ho i just realised how tremendously huge a section we've become, as compared to last time. 12 ppl wor!!! But sadly couldn't get a complete section photo. We ate bananas and took a photo after dinner!

After that we scouted for an ulu toilet to change in cos everywhere was overcrowded. and YESSS found the cafe toilet with almost no one inside! And it was only when i locked myself in the cubicle that i realised i left my stockings in my bag and had to go back to get it=_=

After changing, i met mr lim and he told me that i was the head of ushers. ahaha sounds weird eh. but in the end i couldn't be an usher cos i was going to be on stage before the intermission. And then i was given the task to inform all the ushers and booklet distributers of their duties. So i was running around again. yea once again so unglam. -_- ahah finally had sometime to take some photos!

Soon it was concert time! i think the audience found KC's performance more entertaining then ours but nvm we knew we were playing more complicated and advanced music! AFter the KC band was SH/Alumni band playing the spanish piece by ferrer ferran and percussion concerto by gillingham, soloists were Kang lin, Ying Xian and Linette! too pro liao xD. After intermission it was JH band throughout, playing Mozart Flute concerto; soloist: jia ying (whoo flute leh :D), Bass Clarinet Concerto; soloist: terence (applause!) and last but not least Poema Alpestre by Franco Cesarini; it was long yea? haha. Saga maligna was cut due to lack of time T_T we worked so hard for it! i'm really hoping that we can play it for other occasions.
Many people from 4I came to support our band! ALL WEAR SKIRT LEH TOO CHIO ALREADY HAHA. whoops i meant the girls. the guys were wearing pants of course XD wheee was so happy to see them ^^ a banana keychain ( i shall attach it to my instru case :D) and a CARD! there was a COW in front! thanks for coming! Hope you guys enjoyed the concert (: oh i just realised that the card is visible in the last picture of this post. it's uh on top of the barang barang.

When i got home that night i unpacked my bag and i was thinking... i went to school relatively empty-handed yet i came home with so much barang barang ahaha xD

now let's fast forward.. went for a science quiz at VJC but didn't manage to get into finals T_T well we got a cert. and weihong got an audience participation plaque which he carelessly DROPPED. Now it's chipped-.- haha bu the audience participation round was damn easy.. they asked questions like how is crude oil separated into its components. the MCs had to count to 3 cos everyone raised their hands LOL. In the end they gave every sch a chance i think.. about at least one person from each school got an audience participation plaque. Got to see a couple of familiar faces, rachel ( previously from flutes! ) and sze ying at VJC too! ((:
ahah well TODAY, i was dragged out of bed by my mum to visit my gma's and a couple of distant relatives' graves at Lim Chu Kang cemetery. i feel so smart. i wore a white top and light blue surfer shorts because physics was still fresh in my head. White= good reflector of heat :D my uncle wore black haha>< after that we visited the columbarium at bishan where my g-gma and gma and a couple of distant relatives's urns were. then it started pouring! lalala. i don't know what i'm so happy about hehe. oh yes here's a picturesque scene at the cemetery :
And yes i'm at home doing CME poster and posting this now haha
